written by: Shadoukat

First things first.. you need a Resume!
Yup, it is very important!
Companies want to know who you are, what you want, what you can offer, and what skills you possess...and of course what previous experience you have.

It is very important that you have a good resume.
You want your resume to stick out from the rest, and give YOU the job! To make sure that the employer can get an idea of your skills and talents at first glance and not dig around the whole page to figure out what you are all about.

Here are a few things I did with my resume to make it stick out from the others:
It was printed on nice stock light color paper (white resumes just blend in with the rest, making your resume just be another paper in the pile).
Keep in mind however, that if you use crazy backgrounds, such as marble paper or stripped paper, it will not be able to be photocopied properly.
I added a few color enhancements in different places...such as my name, the categories (skills, education, etc),
I also added a few bullets in a different color (adding color to your resume attracts attention, it is not just another row of black type).
Make sure you just add one color...don't make it too colorful, it will be distracting.
The layout was very clear and to the point (if the resume is hard to follow, they will lose interest).

When sending off your resume, keep in mind that some companies may ask you for a cover letter.
This is basically a letter telling them who you are, what your interests are (or expertise areas), and why you want to work for them. You may not need this for every company you send your resume to, but it looks nice. In cover letters, make sure you address a person, don't make it a "to whom it may concern", if you have a contact name, it is easier to get a faster feedback. And like always, make it short and to the point.
